Biochemistry is a branch of life sciences that focuses on studies to understand the mechanisms by which living organisms perform many functions in molecular detail. It is inherently interdisciplinary and is fundamental in every branch of life and biomedical sciences. It is a laboratory-based science that combines biology and chemistry. It covers a range of scientific disciplines including biochemistry, genetics, microbiology, forensic medicine, plant science and medicine. Biochemistry focuses on processes at the molecular level. It focuses on what is going on in our cells, and works on proteins, lipids and organelles. It also looks at how cells communicate with each other.

Biochemistry is one of the fastest growing sciences in our country, and as in every part of the world, in our country, medicine, pharmacology, agriculture, animal husbandry, industry, environmental sectors such as the serious impact. Because it addresses a wide range of areas, biochemistry is very important, and the progress made in this field over the last 100 years is surprising. Almost all biotechnological products are based on biochemistry knowledge.

The aim of the department is to educate the human resources equipped with entrepreneurial skills and to gain the necessary contribution in scientific and technological fields related to the life, physics, chemistry, biology, health sciences, nutrition and environmental events. For this reason, the Department of Biochemistry responds to this need for qualified manpower trained in the mentioned areas.

Biochemists can understand and solve biological problems using chemical knowledge and techniques. Biochemists can understand how the structure of a molecule is related to its functions and how its molecular interactions are and how it relates to its function.

What do biochemists do?
