About the Department

The Department of Western Literature and Literature was established in order to gain knowledge about the various aspects of social life such as literature, history, art, philosophy specific to the West and primarily English culture to the students at the level of undergraduate program. The aim is to acquire knowledge about classical and contemporary critical theories while equipping their students with literary and cultural traditions and to interpret and evaluate life and the society in which they live in a comparative way. In addition to the social, cultural and literary awareness they will have, students will have the opportunity to acquire and develop listening, speaking, reading and writing skills known as the four basic language skills, thanks to the preparatory program in the department. Students passing the Preparatory Exemption Exam are entitled to begin their first year of education.

There is one branch of education in our department: English Language and Literature. The students of our department gain the ability to distinguish the reflection of social, philosophical, historical and psychological backgrounds which constitute the works, to research and to express their own findings both verbally and in writing, while exploring the works of poetry, prose, novel and theater within the framework of literary theories. In addition to literary courses, linguistics courses are available in our department and our students can have detailed information about English language. It is also encouraged that students learn the methods of scientific research and work in the framework of the research techniques offered in the curriculum and the studies and presentations that students have made during undergraduate education and that they can produce works in the light of these achievements.

Our graduates can be teachers in MoNE by taking pedagogical formation from the relevant faculties such as lecturers, interpreters and public officials and tourism and finance. In addition, our students who graduate from our department have the opportunity to continue their academic studies with their graduation in high school and doctorate education in related departments.
