History
Our faculty was established in 2011. The proposal of Iğdır University Rectorate to start programs and departments within the body of Faculty of Science and Letters discussed at the executive meeting of Higher Education Council dated 16.06.2011 and the opening eleven (11) departments was deemed in accordance with the article 7/d-2 changed under Law no. 2880 of Law no. 2547.
The first graduates of our faculty, who studied in the Department of History, which commenced its first academic year with 30 students, have completed their education in 2013-2014 academic year. The Department of History also started to accept students for its Evening Education Program in 2016-2017 academic year. The department founded its MA program with thesis in 2016-2017 academic year; MA program without thesis in 2017-2018 academic year; and PhD program in the same year.
Along with the Department of History, the Department of Mathematics with its twenty (20) students and the Department of Turkish Language and Literature with its sixty one (61) students commenced their undergraduate program in 2017-2018 academic year. Within the same year, the Department of Mathematics started to accept students for its MA and PhD programs.
In addition, the Department of Biochemistry was founded based on decision on the proposal of Iğdır University Rectorate to start programs and departments within the body of Faculty of Science and Letters discussed at the executive meeting of Higher Education Council dated 02.08.2017, in accordance with the article 7/d-2 changed under Law no. 2880 of Law no. 2547.
Our faculty currently has a total number of 9 departments, 6 of which being active whereas 3 of which inactive, and 62 instructors (2022/February) and it effectively continues to provide educational opportunities for a total number of 857 students.
